manzanita branchOur Manzanita grows naturally among our Christmas trees in the forest. Manzanita are evergreen shrubs or small trees mostly present in Oregon and California. There are 106 species of Manzanita that bloom in the winter to early spring and carry berries in spring and summer. Camas Mountain staff hand cut each order as it is received. Then we painstakingly remove the leaves from each branch by hand, leaving just the stripped, sculptural branches. The Manzanita branches are packed and and shipped in protective boxes for a safe journey to your home.

When ordering your Manzanita, remember that each piece will vary in shape and color depending on harvest area and time of year. Since we cut our natural Manzanita, fresh from the forest, you will notice a change in color as the bark darkens with age.

Our wooden Manzanita stands are custom cut and drilled to fit your hand-selected Manzanita. The stands come from Camas Mountain trees damaged by snow or from small trees thinned from the forest to make room for others to grow.

There are many uses for Manzanita. It has become a popular item used as a centerpiece for weddings and events. It can be mounted to the wall or placed in stands to decorate tabletops and empty nooks around your apartment or home. Manzanita has practical uses as well, such as jewelry holders, towel racks, and canes or walking sticks. Like we say… just use your I-MANZ-INATION!

Please see testimonial below for helpful information.

Hi Rick!

Attached are some photos my husband took of one of the larger manzanitas we’ve decorated. (I’ll email you separately some other pictures of a couple of the smaller “trees” from the group we ordered.)

I also thought I’d share with you some information regarding the products we used in decorating. I think they’re turning out relatively well, so I thought providing some details might be helpful to other nervous MOBs (like myself ) who feel a little challenged in the craft department.

Regarding the bases, rather than trying to cover them or place them in vases, we decided to enhance the bark for a more natural look. I’ve been scrubbing the bark with a small metal brush, letting the stands dry thoroughly, then staining them using Minwax “Woodsheen” in a Rosewood shade. This is an all-in-one, water based “rubbing stain and finish” which is very easy to apply (I think I bought it at Ace Hardware). I’ve been painting the bark only, leaving the top of the stand untouched.

To secure the branch to the stand, I’ve been using “Loctite Power Grab” which is a “Small Project Construction Adhesive.” I like it because it comes in a tube, it’s paste-like in consistency, and easily cleans up with soap and water. For those branches which seem to need a little bit more support to stay upright while the glue is drying, I’ve been wedging a small piece of pipe cleaner into the hole and then applying the Loctite directly over that to completely fill the gap.

Regarding the supplies we used to decorate:

The crystals were purchased at Jo Ann Fabrics- diamond faceted 1″ charms, 160 per package by David Tutera. They have holes on top which allow you to string them separately or in a garland (cost about $9.)

Butterflies purchased at Flower Factory- small size $2.55 per dozen

The flowers I purchased on-line at Package Perfect. I’m glad I bought them in December, because the price has gone up and unfortunately the white flowers with the rhinestones are currently out of stock. Regardless, here are the links to the website where I found the flowers:

In addition, I bought a bunch of gold foiled cake boards on-line, and plan on setting the trees on top of those. On either side of the cake board, we plan to place a battery operated tea light inside a mini paper lantern cut out of metallic gold vellum. I bought a bunch of LED tea-lights at Christmas time and designed a little shade of sorts (similar to a Japanes style lantern) to cover the lights. Kind of hard to explain, but we think this is going to work!

Hope some of this information proves to be helpful!

Lorraine
